Dating For Seniors

Rod Jones | June 12, 2010

A ‘senior’, by definition, is a person older than yourself or, more broadly speaking, an older member of the community. ‘Dating’, by definition refers to the courtship between two people – which is usually romantic – who are either hoping or not hoping to find marriage.

So, ‘senior dating’ refers to the romantic courtship between two persons who are considered older members of society, or the romantic courtship of two people where at least one partner is an older member of society. When referred to as ‘senior’, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the person has to be over the age of perhaps – 60 years of age. People of over the age of, for example, 40 years are also considered ‘seniors’, because people are thought to live ‘three score years and ten’ (70 years), half of which is 35.

Depending which of the many senior dating agencies you visit, especially by means of online senior dating, the age group targeted may vary. However, generally speaking. ‘senior dating’ is designed for those who are above 40 years of age.

Senior dating gives seniors, who could be divorced, widowed or still single, a chance to meet people of a similar age bracket and to share ideas and interests or, if a deeper bond is created between the couple, a more meaningful relationship. This permits seniors to enjoy their life, just as they did when they were younger. Therefore, there are various senior dating services provided on the World Wide Web.

The members’ profiles in many of these these senior dating services, which are obviously intended for seniors, do not often hold photos in them, which gives those who have uploaded their photos an immediate advantage. Most people are apparently too worried about what they look like. Furthermore, some of these senior dating agencies offer specialist services including anonymous email, instant messaging, chat rooms and forums.

When you make use of these online senior dating clubs, you will be able to make new local friends, and chat with each other politely online, so that compatible partners can be found. Additionally, if you are meeting outside the online platform, you should be sure that the meeting is held in a public place – especially if you are meeting each other for the very first time and do not know each other all that well.

Another precaution you can take would be to tell someone you can rely on where you are going and with whom. However, if, for any reason during the meeting, you begin to feel uneasy with the person you are with, just be polite and go home.

Although these precautions measures are general knowledge, it is necessary to repeat them here, because it is better to be safe than sorry. You would be well advised to stick to them too. In this way, senior dating will be shown to be a successful and safe way of allowing those who are divorced, widowed or have children, to be able to rebuild their lives and enjoy friendship with members of the opposite sex again.

Dating 101

Owen Jones | June 6, 2010

Dating advice is abundant: it’s on the Internet, in magazines, books, newspapers and on the TV. Dating advice is so easy to give that an eight-year-old even wrote a book about it. (That child is intelligent and ought to be sought after by the girls, because while fundamental, all of his dating advice is true. If you have read the book, you would be forced to admit that that eight-year-old child does know what he is proposing (no pun intended): that is to keep everything straightforward. And that it in a nutshell when it comes to dating, keep things simple.

Leave your past in the past. There’s a reason it’s called the past. The first thing any giver of dating advice would tell you is that a fresh start is important for a date to go well. Boring your date with tales of the ex’s misdeeds is a definite no-no. Don’t let old grudges get in the way of new opportunities.

‘Be yourself’ is probably the best dating advice possible. It’s true that people like to put their best foot forward, and impress their date, but if they aren’t their usual selves, not only will they feel uncomfortable, but their date will pick up on the uneasy vibes as well.

Not to expect too much (nor too little) is also good dating advice. If you expect too much from one date or from te person you are dating, it is highly likely that you will be discouraged by the results. After all, your date is only human too and first dates are generally at least slightly awkward.

A question that crops up time and time again is: who should pay? The general consensus of opinion in dating advice circles is that the one who invites, pays. But, others argue that it is always better to go 50/50 every time to avoid embarrassment. Furthermore, there is yet another school of dating advise though, that reasons that a man is not a gentleman” if he doesn’t offer to pick up the bill. The best thing to do in this scenario would be to settle for something that you and your date are both comfortable with.

Probably texting your date before your meeting is smart dating advise as it puts him or her at ease and allows you to discuss interests or hobbies in a much more informal way and less tense environment than your first date would be. That would allow you to use this as common ground when things get awkward (as they generally do on the first few dates unless there is an instant rapport) and get the conversation going again.

The most important bit of dating advice though, is to remember that no one date is a deal-breaker. No date is the end, so if one doesn’t work out, why worry, there will be others. And if they doesn’t work, there are plenty of other people to go out with.

Growing Online Dating Relationships

Susan Pierce | March 31, 2010

Just like with regular off-line relationships, online relationships need to be tended and to be allowed to grow over time. Here are a few fast growing tips:

1. Take Time and Make Time: Does your online date get in touch with you regularly? Do you do the same? Neglecting virtual meetings can be considered not nice, so treat each other’s time respectfully. If that respect is lacking, it might mean that it is time to move on.

2. Communication Needs to “Feel” Right For Both of You: If one of you is too hasty about having a meeting, for instance, that can create uncomfortable feelings. Therefore, please, don’t rush things; just take your time to learn more about each other and engender trust.

3. Respect Each Other’s Privacy: Don’t show the other person’s email addresses or digital photos to your friends, for example; especially if your online friend emailed you the information in confidence.

4. Share Special Online and Offline Fun Times: when online: send online greeting cards; links to favourite sites to upload digital photos of your favourite pet or car; download music and video clips; post on favourite forums of interest. When offline: if you’re exchanging addresses or post office boxes, send printed greeting cards and postcards and/or small items from your area (like a key chain with your state flower).

5. Share Recipes: People get tired of just talking about the weather, so a very popular subject to take refuge in is food. Sharing information about favourite foods and recipes will break the ice and even help form a friendship; talk about your culinary skills, or the lack thereof, and preferences. Search online for free recipes to share and take photos of your culinary masterpieces and share them with your online friend as well.

6. Bidding at Auctions: Ebay auctions sell just about everything, don’t they? There you go then, surf around and enter searches like the dates you were in high school and share cool photos of old games, toys and TV shows from when you were a child or when your parents or grandparents were little.

Online dating should be an educational and fun experience. So, go on, learn more about each other and have fun while youre at it! Take a cyber-stroll down ol’ memory lane together and see what’s cookin’. Tend your online friendship, water it with care and over time it can sprout and grow.
