Chronic Tension Headaches – What Can I Do?

Owen Jones | September 6, 2010

There are so many sorts of headache and headaches are so common, that there is a very good probability that everyone you know has had them or still gets them. The reasons why people get headaches are just as varied. It could be stress, over-medication, migraine, lack of calories or tension. One of the worst types is chronic tension headaches.

A standard tension headache feels as if a belt is being done up tightly around your forehead, but they do not tend to last very long and they are few and far between. A chronic tension headache is the same, but it may come every day or even several times a day. A headache is classed as a chronic tension headache if you get a tension headache than fifteen times in a month for several successive months.

Therefore, if you think that you are suffering from this type of headache, start to write notes in a diary. When? Where? How bad? How long it lasted? And anything else that you think may be relevant, like what you have eaten or done that day and the day before. You may become aware of a connection to work or diet.

Some sufferers explain the pain as like having a very tight strap wrapped around their head, others say the sensation of constriction goes down as far as their shoulders. In general, sufferers of tension and chronic tension headaches agree, that the pain is strongest in the forehead, then along the sides of the head and sometimes at the back too.

They say that the normal level of pain is a dull ache which can be mild to moderate in intensity. It is more of a nagging, always-on pain than a sharp, distracting pain.

Chronic tension headaches seem to be early risers, that is, some people wake up with them and others say that they begin just after they get up in the morning. It is as if the thought of the day ahead is almost too much too bear. The pain can intensify at certain times of the day, or it can just slowly slip away almost unobserved.

Chronic tension headaches are nowhere near as common as standard tension headaches, but they are twice as common in women as in men.

The main issue with these headaches, besides the pain itself, is that they become a routine event. You wait for it to happen, you are that sure that it will accompany you throughout the day as normal. The pain can just become one continuous drag on your life.

For this reason, sufferers of CTH are often vulnerable to depression and anxiety and it is hard to know which came first, the CTH or the depression / anxiety and which is causing which. If you think this could be your problem, do not try to treat the headaches yourself, go to see a doctor about the depression or anxiety, have that sorted out and the chronic tension headaches may disappear too without any additional medication.

Basic Golfing Tips For Beginners: 1

Rhys Jones | August 19, 2010

Golfing has become phenomenally popular over the last 45 years, producing such world-class champions as Greg Norman, Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods. Some first-class courses too have become household names; think of Wentworth, St. Andrews, Augusta and Pinewood.

But why should golfing have become so poplar with the public? Surely, it must be because a round of golf is a leisurely, but nevertheless, active, outdoor pursuit with a competitive side that can be enjoyed with friends but that can never be mastered.

Your scorecard shows your progress, or lack of it, and this can spur you on to want to play again.

This is the first lesson for the novice golfer who doesn’t know anything about golfing.

The typical round of golf is played on a course of eighteen holes, each or which has its own ‘par’. Par is the total number of shots it should take a player to complete that hole, ie all the tee shots (drives), fairway shots, chips (short shots onto the green) and puts into the hole.

This ‘par’ value is based on the length and difficulty of the hole in question. Pars range from three to six, so if you get the ball into the hole in four shots on a ‘par four’ hole, you made ‘par’. However, if you took three shots, it’s called a ‘birdie’ or five shots a ‘bogie’.

All the holes on a golf course will have at least one ‘hazard’ to make the game more challenging and therefore more interesting. These hazards are usually: sand traps, trees and bodies of water, which are set up in such a way as to be obstructive. A beginner at golf should seek out a course which has fewer and less obstructive hazards so it is easier to play.

Players keep their own score of the total number of shots taken for each hole. After the eighteenth hole, they add up their scores and the one with the lowest is the winner.

Please don’t take your score or your lack of skill to heart when you are a beginner golfer, because, although the professionals make it look simple, it takes many years to play the game well.

It makes very good sense to take a few lessons from the course pro, when you are just beginning to learn to play golf, because then you will learn how to stand and swing the golf club correctly.

Handling Credit Card Debt

Angela Jones | August 11, 2010

Credit card debt is a much discussed topic in both financial and public circles. A large section of the population has has gotten itself into trouble with credit card debt.

The main reason for so many credit card related casualties is that many people don’t understand the idea of credit cards properly. They treat credit cards as free money. So all the discipline, which would otherwise have been exercised when spending hard-earned money, goes by the by.

Which means that people overspend and get into credit card debt. They keep spending till they reach the credit maximum on their credit card. Some people treat it like a game and consider it a defeat (or consider their credit card under utilised) if they don’t hit the credit limit fast enough. These needless spends result in a condition where they are not able to pay back their credit card debts and end up paying interest on the amount they owe.

This keeps increasing their credit card debt and they soon find that the interest constituent has become a standard feature in their monthly expenses and it is there even if they spend nothing on their credit card. That is credit card debt at its worst. Soon they find that their current credit card can no longer handle their needs and they commence looking around to get another credit card. With the additional credit, they let themselves free again and follow a shop till you drop routine. In a little while the credit limit of the new credit card is reached as well and they again shirk on payments. This is how credit card debt accumulate.

After a while, they might find out about credit card debt consolidation and other credit card debt eradication techniques. They are quick to grab such credit card debt reduction techniques, but that’s not because they are serious about reducing their credit card debt but because of the appealing low APR offers. As if it were treasure, they again get back to building up their credit card debt. All the while they are spoiling their credit card status and they soon realise that no one is prepared to loan them any money because of their credit history.

At this point, they can only get a secured credit card (ie where you first deposit money into your credit card account and then only do you get the privilege of spending it (50-100% of it) using a credit card. Credit card debt collection agencies, the auction of their goods and bankruptcy is the next thing that awaits them and their dream is blown away in a moment.

Don’t get caught up with credit card debt. You cannot win, unless you die.

Deep Sea Fishing

Owen Jones | June 12, 2010

Although the terminology “deep sea fishing” seems to refer to marine fishing trips, the term actually applies to any type of fishing in waters wider than a lake. Rivers and ponds can not mean “deep sea fishing” as the water is too shallow in most cases. Open sea fishing is carried out outside coastal waters that is the habitat of lots of the larger fish.

Deep sea fishing requires bigger boats for the task so as to maneuver and store the catch conveniently. Such a boat should have enough room for the crew meant to carry out the fishing and also for the equipment needed in order to catch and store the big fish. It should be the type of boat intended to withstand storms and bad weather at sea and to facilitate access to the fishing area quickly and safely.

The wide range of fish that are caught in deep sea fishing includes marlins, swordfish, sailfish, large tunas and various types of sharks. There are also smaller species of fish captured at the same time with these large ones. However, the former are not part of the plan. These come as by-catch or, if caught intentionally, they are meant to be turned into bait for the larger fishes.

Deep sea fishing has been practised in mainly the same areas throughout the time since this occupation became known and later still it became a profitable business. California, Nova Scotia, Hawaii, Florida and New Zealand are among the most common of locations. One of the advantages of those areas is that the possibility of catching big fish along the coasts is triple compared to other regions where the various large species live in deeper waters.

Deep sea fishing involves several techniques out of which the most common is trolling, that is a form of angling performed by drawing a baited line on the bottom of the ocean. The bait usually is squid or other smaller fish caught for baiting purposes and it is cast behind the boat. The stabilizers behind the boat also called outriggers work great in spreading and enlarging the area for catching the fish. Another technique is the chumming or chunking which requires that large pieces of bait fish get thrown overboard in order to attract the desired larger species.

All in all, the scale of deep sea fishing has developed proportionally with the greater consumption of the market. Presently, various diets using fish dishes have actually become an epitome of healthy living and many people give up red meat for this lighter white variety.

Basic Golfing Tips For Beginners: 3

Owen Jones | June 3, 2010

The expression the ‘long game’ refers to your drives (shots off the tee) and fairway shots; everything short of the shots you make to get onto the green.

Because each hole has a different difficulty level, a different par and different hazards, advising you to use your driver every time on every tee would obviously be wrong.

But don’t worry about it. This is something that you will have to learn with experience as you learn the various types shot you need to make, which will vary according to the club, the placement of the ball and your own personal style of swing.

Without putting too fine a point on it, the lower the number of the club, the longer and lower your ball will travel through the air. So, for example, a 4-iron will make the ball travel on a long and low trajectory and that will most make it roll when it hits the ground, whereas a 9-iron will impart much more loft to the ball and ensuring that it will go less distance both in the air and over the ground.

The professionals on television make it look so easy, don’t they? They consistently hit the ball long and straight and never miss-hit the ball making it dribble ten feet or completely miss the ball altogether, but you do not have to do that either, if you practice, practice, practice.

Driving is so very important to the game, and many hours spent at the driving range will help improve your distance. You should experiment with the same club to see what works for you if you move the ball forward or backward in your stance. Take a lesson, if possible, and learn the proper swing from the beginning.

Mastering the long game will help you get to the green in fewer strokes, keeping your score and frustration levels down. Remember that it takes a long time to learn consistency and also remember that you’re supposed to be having fun! So go and enjoy yourself.
